Veterans

Veteran athletes are categorised by UKA in 5-year groups starting at 35-39 for both men and women, though traditionally men had started at 40-44 (and this is still often applied)
Veteran qualification is taken as age ON THE DAY of the relevant event.
Veterans can take part in any club team event irrespective of their age

Team Events

The same sort of criteria apply as for open-age events (see 'Teams and Managers'):

• NB To participate in any of the events listed below, runners must have a UKA Competition Licence
• Note: men's and women's events are held on the same day (and venue) and the categories usually are separate races
• All entries in advance; electronic entry optional (some) or obligatory.
• It is often allowed for a vet to be 'over-age' for a category but is not usually allowed for a vet to run in more than one age category at the same meeting
The above permits a compeititve run where a club has low team strength at a particular category.
• Championship meetings often make awards in 5 year individual groups but apply 10-year criteria to the teams
eg a runner 46 years old could be awarded an individual medal for winning as vet 45-49 but be in a team as vet 40-49

Competition Entry for Veteran Teams

Broadly but briefly: Determining availability, selection for a team (or for which team), and actual entering the names is done by Steve Marshall and Ian Whyman for both men and ladies

In terms of specific county, area and national competitions, veteran champoionships have traditionally parallelled open-age for COUNTY and NTIONAL events but are a bit different for areas ie for us, NORTH of England.
