| More photos added 2nd November!! Great pics from Gayle added!
This seasons first fixture took place in glorious sunshine at Norfolk Park. This is a very hilly venue, and it was great to see so many RH vests out! Thanks to all coaches, athletes and parents for helping make this such a success. There were wins for Codie Marsh (U13 girls), Quin Simms (U13 boys), and Natasha Hatswell (U15 girls), and great support from all the other athletes. Results are not yet published, but we were well placed as a club, overall. U11, U13 and U15 photos are on the Young Athletes Photos section. U17 and senior photos are in the Cross country gallery. There is quite a difference in composure between laps 1 and subsequent laps, and between uphill and downhill. I can't understand why .... it didn't look too hard to me. |

The ladies B team finished 56th. This is the first time we have ever fielded 2 teams, and the A team performance the best ever club finishing position. The mens 6 stage team finished 41st, again this is a very good performance, since the standard at this event is phenomenal. Special mention goes to Jon Thewlis who finished 3rd on the 1st leg, recording the 18th fastest time of the day. | Northern Athletics Young Athletes Road relays Croxteth Park Liverpool, 7th O | |
| Sun 07 Oct 07 | Steve Gaines 80 |
| Another good day for our female young athletes! We had teams in all age categories. Unfortunately we did not have any boys /mens teams, due to 2 factors - 1) football demands reducing our 2)already low numbers below what we need for a team.
The girls and women performed well. The standard in this competition is high.Where earlier(at county level) we struggled to get a team at U13, we had new member Codie Marsh supported by Georgina Spencer and Jessica Mangham to finish a very impressive 13th. We had 2 teams at U15, the Ateam of Natasha Hatswell, new member Drew Phillips and Georgina Arif, finishing 27th. The B team of Maddie Wragg,Rachel Hall & Melissa Hellewell finishing 34th. In the U17 event we had one team, Robyn Lanceley, Abbie Vernon & Laura Barnes finishing 9th. Well done everyone, and thanks to the supporters A full report will follow in the newsletter and website. | The AGM is to be held on the 18th October at 7:30pm, Herringthorpe Leisure Centre.
The AGM format has been changed, to circulate all reports in advance and not read them out at the meeting. It is hoped that this will allow any issues to be fully debated and resolved, and reduce the boredom of having to sit through lengthy report readings. The various reports are to be circulated to all those members on the list of member email addresses, before the 7th Oct. If you have not received the reports by the 9th October, and wish to see them, let us know via the "Contact Us" link on this site. They will be sent asap. Any issues, questions or proposals you have will then be addressed at the meeting. I look forward to seeing lots of members on the 18th! |

| Northern Athletics, Division 1 play off match,1st Sep. | |
| Sat 08 Sep 07 | Steve Gaines 74 |
| Having won the division 2EC league our team travelled to Wavertree Stadium, Liverpool, for the play off match for promotion to Division 1 in the Northern League.
The first two clubs get promoted. Congratulations to both Bolton (427 pts) and Blackburn (415.5). We finished 3rd,with 361 points, beating some strong teams from Preston, Boston, Middlesboro and W Cheshire. This was an excellent performance, and we still have an outside chance of promotion, since Leeds City AC are in the play-off match for promotion to the BAL national league on the 15th Sep. If they are successful, there are no Northern clubs to be demoted, so that could mean we do get promotion to NoE div. 1 after all. Whatever the outcome, this has been a very good and successful year for our senior team. Thanks and congratulations to all athletes who have competed, and particularly to the team managers, Ian Cooley, David Scholey and Mavis White. The team spirit and commitment have been great! |

We do not yet have any official results, but if as announced yesterday we won with 441 points beating Boston with 429 points, & Lincoln Wellington with 424 points.
Assuming these are ratified after scrutiny, this means that we have qualified for the play off match for promotion to NoE league 1. Thanks to all the athletes and officials for their performances throughout the season. A special thanks to the team managers, Ian, David & Mavis for their tireless efforts. The play off match is on the 1st Sep at Liverpool. Let's get the best team out we can! Photos from the match are available to view on the website. |

| NJL Humber Div, Match 3 Hull 15th July 2007 | |
| Mon 16 Jul 07 | Steve Gaines 69 |
| Despite fielding a much weakened team of only 14 athletes, (due to the English schools events being held on the Fri & Sat, and the Grand Prix meeting persuading some of our athletes to spectate rather than compete) we finished 3rd in the match. We had 6 A event winners, and 9 B event winners. The match was won by Kingston Upon Hull, with Wakelfield narrowly beating us into 2nd place. In fact we beat Wakefield in the athletics match by 3 points, but we only scored 25 officials points to their 35. This good result is due to excellent effort and performances by all athletes. Thanks to all the athletes & officials who turned out.

| The first meeting for this season took place on the 19th, and included the new format, whereby each athlete competes on a multi event basis. The weather was sunny and warm, with a good turn out, but the number of Rotherham athletes taking part was very disappointing.
Few of our club members have bought numbers for the series. Only 15 (Less than 10%) of our eligible club members have bought numbers! There were even less competitors in this first event. Only 4 girls competed, and there were no U13 girls or under 15 boys! I am not sure of the reason for the low turnout, and would be very interested to find out why?? I hope there will be lots more at the next match, at Doncaster on the 5th June. |

| BMAF National Road Relays, Sutton Coldfield 12th May 2007 | |
| Sun 13 May 07 | Steve Gaines 59 |
| We managed to turn out full teams in the W45, M40 and M50 categories, and part teams in the M35 and W35 categories.
There were some great individual and team performances; Andy Aked and Richard Harris each running the 3rd fastest time in their event. You need more than individuals though to get good team placings, and we showed our strength in depth to finish 8th in the W45 race, 11th in the M50 race, and 7th in the M40 race. The M35 trio were in 2nd place after the 3rd leg, but didn't have a 4th leg runner. Roll on next year when we should have W35, M35 and M60 teams in contention as well! Event report, photos and results on the website Road section, results. |

| What a performance! We won the first match of the season!
The match result was 1st RHAC 392.5, 2nd Doncaster 387.5, 3rd Boston 387. Thanks to the team managers (who were despairing the lack of athletes prior to the event), the helpers and officials, but mainly thanks to the athletes who showed tremendous spirit and commitment and covered events they would not normally do. They helped make the 5 points difference. A full report and results will follow. |

| National 12 & 6 stage road relays | |
| Sun 15 Apr 07 | Steve Gaines 52 |
| In glorious weather conditions at Sutton Park, we fielded both a women's and a men's team. The runners found the hot sunny conditions somewhat different to those they are used to on training nights at Herringthorpe, but all performed well on the day.
The womens team finished 19th, and the mens team 52nd. The women's result is, as far as I am aware, the best ever and represents a tremendous improvement from last year, where we only had 3 runners! The men also improved on their last year 56th position. Photos now added to road section gallery (21:00 15/04/07) Report added (13:00 16/04/07). |

| Dennis Russell has supplied the following results from the above meeting:-
U13 girls, Natasha Hatswell 3rd. U15 girls Stef Burns 1st, Robyn Lanceley 2nd, Abbie Vernon 3rd. The RH girls won the team prize. The U17 womens race was run with the U20, Seniors and Vets. Laura Spence had a good run to win the race overall, with Jade Allen 2nd U17 (4th O/all) and Jess Fawcett 3rd U17 (7th O/all). Again RH winning the team prize. Dennis reports that Philippa James ran the senior race, and that other RH runners ran, but Dennis did not know who they were. He did say that another RH senior lady ran and a male athlete who had also run that morning at Wombwell. (I suspect John Spencer!) I will try and get some full results. Good to see Robyn, Jade and Jess over their illnesses and injury. It's looking good for the Nationals! |

| Pete Shaw wins 119th CHALLENGE CUP | |
| Mon 25 Dec 06 | Peter Humphries 26 |
| The 119th running of the RHAC Challenge Cup took place this morning with an 11am start from the usual start.
The race headquarters this year was new: the Park Hotel, Middle Lane (which is on the corner of the race route). The famous trophy was taken this year by Pete Shaw who started near the back but stormed through the field to overtake Luke Brady, but not until after the hospice on the final lap. Luke had worked to the front and was only some 30 yards adrift at the end; an exhibition of good handicapping from Jim Brogan. Numerous runners were in close attendance including fastest on the day Mark Ruddleston. |

| Brussells 10.5k International Cross-country | |

| Jenny Blizard was in international cometition again last weekend. From UKA website: Hayley Yelling (Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow AC), the diminutive battler who led Norwich Union GB to the European Team Silver medals again last weekend and usually relishes tough conditions, became so bogged down in the women’s 6km race that she slipped from third to seventh in the last 20 metres. The diminutive Buckinghamshire maths teacher said: “I was running well but the home straight was so muddy I was a bit of a girl.” The race was won in 21:27 by the favourite, Teyiba Erkesso (Ethiopia), Bronze medallist in the Senior Women’s short course race at the 2003 World Cross Country Championships. Then came something of a pile-up:
2 Aniko Kalovics (Hungary) 21:35 3 Analia Rosa (Portugal) 21:38 4 Dejaeghere Veerle (Belgium) 21:39 5 Fionnuala Britton (Ireland) 21:39 6 Getaneh Genet (Ethiopia) 21:41 7 Hayley Yelling 21:41. Other UK finishers: 14 Gemma Phillips (England / Kendal AC) 22:26; 15 Eleanor Baker (England / South London Harriers) 22:46; … 20 Claire Martin (England / Telford AC) 23:17; … 22 Susie Bush (South of England / Aldershot, Farnham and District) 23:25; … 25 Victoria Webster (South of England / Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) 23:49; … 28 Jenny Blizard (England / Rotherham Harriers) 24:03; 29 Frances Briscoe (South of England / White Horse Harriers) 24:06; … 35 Alexa Joel (South of England / Basildon AC) 24:39; … 37 Nicola Bamford (Midland Counties / Notts AC) 24:51; … 39 Shavaun Henry (Blackheath and Bromley) 25:38. |

| from the UKA website The Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland Women's Team achieved fifth place, their highest position since 1993. Britain finished in 2 hours 20 minutes 49 seconds, their second fastest time in the 17-year history of this race. Their quickest, 2:19:12, was fired by Paula Radcliffe, the world marathon record holder. Here is how our very own Jenny Blizard performed.
Stage 6 (7.2km): It was a strange distance, mainly uphill but Jenny Blizard (Rotherham Harriers) coped well enough with the extra pressure of running the 'glory leg' on her international debut to retain fifth place. Her time of 24:42 was ninth fastest overall. Fastest was Maria Konovalova (Russia) with 22.36 as Lucy Kabuu clocked 23.08 to carry Kenya to victory. |
